Don Worth, Photographs 1955-1985
Introduction by Hal Fischer
The Friends of Photography (Untitled 40), 1986, 80 pages
ISBN 0-933286-44-9
Don Worth worked primarily with an 8"x10" view camera, creating very precise, highly detailed images. Like Ansel Adams, he originally studied music before turning to photography, and he also worked as Adams' assistant for four years. His images, however, are quite a bit different from those of Adams.
Worth was fascinated by plants and made many superb images of plant forms. He also did landscapes, male nudes, and incredibly colorful still lifes created from assemblages of plants, fabrics, and found objects.
The book contains 33 photographs (6 printed in full color), a chronology of Worth's life, and an Introduction by Hal Fischer which gives good insights into Worth's life and work.
Don Worth may not be as well-known as some of his contemporaries, but this is a collection of excellent images. Recommended.
