Picture of the Week

A once-a-week look back at some of my favorite photos.

The Silent Deterrent (Jul 1978)

If I recall correctly, this hill was a popular spot for hotrodders, whose antics occasionally resulted in a wreck. After a particularly bad wreck, in which I think some kids may have been killed, it was decided to mount the wrecked car next to the road in an attempt to convince drivers to slow down and drive responsibly.

I don't remember exactly where this was, but I think it was somewhere between Gypsum and Highway 15. The Salina Journal may have run an article & photo on this, because I immediately knew what it was when I came across it, but I don't think I was actually looking for it.

This digital image was obtained by copying the original 6x6 negative.
