Ansel Adams founded the Friends of Photography in 1967 and was a strong supporter of the organization, serving as President and later as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. After Adams passed away on April 22, 1984, this book – the 37th volume in the Friends of Photography Untitled series – was published to commemorate his life.
The book is mostly text. It reprints the seven appreciations that were presented at his Memorial Celebration, along with four additional pieces written specifically for this book. Also included are an Introduction and a detailed chronology of Adams' life, illustrated with many family photos.
Several of Ansel's most well-known photographs are included: one for each of the eleven text pieces, and another on the title pages.
The front cover has no printing. The title, and an artist's rendering of one his most famous photos, are embossed into the pure white cover, creating a beautiful yet subtle effect.
This book is a fine summation of the life of Ansel Adams.
