Kickoff (Oct 1973)

St. Mary of the Plains College vs Bethany College

Football kickoffs are easy to photograph... and frankly pretty boring. But this one, with the ball caught in a perfect vertical spiral, the kicker still up in the air, the Bethany player waiting to receive the kick at the far end of the field, and the referee watching over the play, is just about perfect. And I planned none of it.

As the old saying goes: "Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good."

This digital image was obtained by copying the original 35mm negative.
